Ms. Yanow has practiced exclusively in the areas of employment/labor law for over two decades. She founded EquiLaw in 2003. Ms. Yanow is a sought-after independent workplace investigator and trainer, having conducted over 500 investigations and t
rained thousands of employees, regarding issues including harassment, discrimination and retaliation. Ms. Yanow also serves as an expert witness and consultant, for both plaintiff and defense counsel, in the areas of prevention, elimination and investigation of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.
Prior to launching EquiLaw, Ms. Yanow was employed by Warner Bros., where, after joining the Company in 1991, she acquired a decade of in-house experience. In 1992 Ms. Yanow co-founded the Company's Employment Law department; she served as Vice President and Senior Employment Counsel until 2001. In that capacity, Ms. Yanow chaired the committee responsible for creating and implementing sexual harassment and discrimination training at the Studio; investigated claims of harassment and discrimination, as well as other misconduct and employment-related matters; responded to state and federal complaints and charges; provided counsel regarding ADA accommodations, leaves of absence, reductions in force, and WARN issues; monitored employment-related compliance for the Company, and directed outside counsel representing the Company in litigation.
Before joining Warner Bros., Ms. Yanow held a position as in-house counsel at NBC, handling a wide range of labor and employment issues. Ms. Yanow's in-house experience was grounded upon three-and-a-half years of private practice at the international law firm of Pepper, Hamilton and Scheetz, where she represented employers in all aspects of labor and employment litigation and practice.
Ms. Yanow is a Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. After attending UC Berkeley, Ms. Yanow studied law at the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1986 garnering an Externship with the Directors Guild of America. Ms. Yanow received her JD in 1986 and was admitted to practice in both state and federal courts in the same year.
Ms. Yanow is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, for which she serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the Labor and Employment Law Section. Ms. Yanow is also a member of the State Bar of California and the American Bar Association; she is a Founding member of the Society of Independent Workplace Investigators (SIWI) and is a Charter member of the California Association of Workplace Investigators (CAOWI).
